I started my martial arts training in 1977 studying Judo in middle school in Fort Lupton, Colorado. In 1993 I started training Tae Kwon Do in Alexandria, Minnesota. I became a First Degree black belt in 1995 and Second Degree in 1998. During this time I Met Grand Master Kevin(who was then Mr. Kevin) and trained with him in our parent gym. I opened a gym in Glenwood in 1995. Due to spacing issues I relocated this gym to Starbuck, MN. I opened a second gym in Brooten, MN in 1997 and a third one in Melrose, MN in 1999. I Left Tae Kwon Do in 2002, when I relocated to Southern Minnesota for work and turned the gyms over to Master Kevin. I then relocated to Northern Minnesota and trained sporadically, as my work load allowed, in Thief River Falls MN, from 2010 to 2017. I resumed full time Tae Kwon Do training In 2017 here in Alexandria. I passed the 4th Degree Master test on February 2nd, 2019. I received my First Degree black belt in Hapkido on August 11th, 2000. I received Second Degree black belt in Hapkido on April 1st, 2018 and received Third Degree black belt on July 1st 2020. I started training in Kumdo on April 4th, 1998. I am currently training with Master Myung Min of the Sung Moo Kumdo Academy, currently learning the art of SilJun DoBup which is the art of drawing and cutting with the sword.
We are a member of the Hyun Moo Kwan , The Kukkiwon and The World Taekwondo Masters Union.

I started doing Tae kwon do in the summer of 2011 and I never looked back, originally this was going to be a bucket list for me I was going to quit when I got my first degree black belt, but over the years I enjoyed tae kwon do so I decided to keep training. I finally passed my black belt test on June 13, 2014. I worked hard and I finally passed my 2nd degree black belt test on September 21, 2017, with more persistance and I finally passed my 3rd degree black belt test on February 2nd, 2019. I don't know what the future holds for me but right now I want to keep on training and get better as a martial artist and a better person.

Kumdo is rich in tradition and discipline because of the weapons used in training.
The bamboo sword and the protective gear are used in the sport side for tournaments which is called Kumdo.
The wooden sword is us used for patterns and noncontact action which is called Kumbup.
After the student has reached the black belt level they will be using a live sword called a Jingum (Katana in Japanese).
Sil Jun Do Bup is the art of cutting with a live sword and of drawing and sheathing a sword. Sil Jun Do Bup is an art form all by itself but we incorporate it into our Kumdo curriculum.
